Sugar Cookies


1 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 ts. vanilla
1/2 ts. almond extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 ts. baking soda
1 ts. cream of tartar
granulated or colored sugar

Mix butter, confectioners sugar, egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Blend in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Cover the dough and chill 2-3 hrs. Heat oven to 375. Divide dough in half. Roll each half about 1/8" thick on a lightly floured, cloth covered board. Cut into desired shapes and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7-8 min. or until light brown on edges. Remove immediately. About 5 dozen.
